I first laid down bold black shapes with different sizes and slightly different feels — then slowly built up the color.
I am playing with movement with large paint pens and colored pencils.
Taking inspiration from the small bits
Sometimes only a tiny part of a piece works out. I keep it around for a while to inspire other work. For example, these are part of two previous pieces:
Palette knife play
Added magenta, silver, and dark orange paint directly onto the canvas and moved it around with a palette knife. Once dry, I drew with wax crayons. So incredibly fun and rewarding!
Noting lightness and darkness
My kitchen reflected in the tea kettle. And a tree from a friend’s deck. I find sketching very relaxing.
Imagining a sunset scene near water
Acrylic paint added with a palette knife -- also watercolors, pens, and other mixed media.
I hope your weekend is treating you very well!
Sending my love,
-Tamara
